First Timer

Anderson went for his 6 month appointment today! He weighs 17 lbs. 11 oz. (50th percentile) and is 28 inches long (90th percentile). Everything looks great. We also started rice cereal today! I know some people start earlier, but my doctor (who happens to be my cousin) suggested waiting till 6 months. As you can see, we didn't make that much progress. These pictures were after I had already wiped his face off 2 or 3 times. I'm sure it will get better. Feel free to offer any tips you veteran moms have.

Good luck with that. I waited until Ainsley was six months old too. She is seven months old now, and has learned how to spit it back at me!

Another one of her favorites is to use her hands, grab it out of her mouth, the proceed to spread it around in her hair.

She's not a big fan of the baby food, but loves when I mash up bananas, peas, potatoes. . . things that are easy to smash with a fork.

Shoot every time Isaac eats there is a good one foot circle all around him of food and water!

Guess I am not one for good advice, I don't mind the messes. I like watching them learning to feed themselves, and I sometimes envy them playing in their food :)

I agree with Tricia! :)
Try laying him back more. That way he has to swallow since it's sitting right at the back of his throat. It takes a lot of tries till they get the idea of it. He looks super happy though! Try making it runnier too. I am no expert...just offering my crazy 2 cents!!

Kami he is so cute messy. I dont really that great of advice but with my kids I would give them a drink of their bottle after each bite so they would learn to swallow instead of spitting it out. Not sure this approach really worked because they are still to this day a mess after each meal. Good luck!

I hate baby food!!! I get so frustrated trying to force the food and all it does is come out. First, I give them a baby spoon to hold so they aren't grabbing at the spoon you are using to feed them. Then, if they are having a hard time keeping it their mouth I hold them in my arms with them reclined and their arms tucked in kind of let them suck it out of the spoon. Good luck. He'll get better when he does it a few times.

I feed my boys in their bouncer seats and I just put the spoon on their mouth and let them suck it off. It helps them swallow and I read to do that somewhere. It will still take some time, but he'll get the hang of it. In the meantime you're getting some great photo opps with that cute little messy face!

I love his eyes. They are so super bright and just pop. Good luck with feeding. I swear it will get easier.
